Kid-Friendly Easter Goodies

With Easter coming up, this is the perfect time to make cute desserts with your kids! Whether you’re hosting family for Easter dinner or are simply looking for a fun activity to occupy the kids on a rainy day, these recipes are easy enough for little hands and super delicious! Don’t forget to stock up on all the ingredients and Easter-themed molds that you’ll need at Sweet Treat Supply.

Easter Candy Bark

Ingredients:
8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
8 ounces milk chocolate chips
7 ounces pink candy melts (like these!)
1/2 cup Spring Oreos with yellow centers
1/4 cup Easter candy corn
1/4 cup Mini Cadbury Eggs, cut in half
1/4 cup Mini Robin Eggs
1/8 cup M&M's

Directions:
Lay out a large piece of parchment paper.
Put 8 ounces of semisweet chocolate chips and 8 ounces of milk chocolate chips in a microwavable bowl. Melt the chocolate chips, but be careful not to overheat the chocolate.
Spread the melted chocolate onto the parchment paper into a rectangle (the size depends on how thick you’d like the bark to be; we’d suggest keeping it pretty thin).
In a microwavable bowl, melt the pink candy melts. Be careful not to overheat the candy melts. Pour the melted candy melts on top of the chocolate.
Using a knife or stick, swirl the candy melts into the chocolate (try back and forth, up and down, or in spirals).
Place the candy and cookies on the melted chocolate and candy melts. Press down lightly.
Allow the Easter Candy Bark to dry for at least three hours. Break into pieces and enjoy!

Peeps Rice Krispies Treats

Credit for this recipe comes from Love from the Oven, and the recipe is totally customizable. Let your kids express themselves through treats!

Ingredients:
Rice Krispies Treats (either store bought or homemade)
Peeps (bunnies and chicks)
Green food coloring
Robin’s Eggs candies
Shredded coconut
Sprinkles
Candy melts or white chocolate
Sucker Sticks

Directions:
Prepare your candy melts or chocolate according to the package instructions.
Color your coconut into grass: Add two drops of green food coloring to a plastic container, add the coconut, seal and shake well.
Spoon a coating of candy melt or chocolate on top of your Rice Krispies Treat.
Press a Peep into the candy/chocolate.
Add sprinkles or coconut around your Peep.
If you selected a chick Peep, add a few Robin’s Eggs candies.
Add a sucker stick to the bottom of your treat.

There you have it! Easy, quick and fun, not to mention perfect to display on a table along with other Easter goodies.

Bunny Racers

Ingredients:
24 Swiss cake rolls
Vanilla frosting
24 rabbit Peeps
Peach ring gummies, cut in half
Lifesavers candies
M&Ms
Spree candies

Directions:
Lay the Swiss rolls on a flat surface.
Pour your vanilla frosting into a pastry bag. Press all air out and snip off end.
Cut a shallow V-shape on the bottom of your Peep so it sits flat on the cake roll.
Add a small amount of frosting to the bottom of your Peep, then place toward the back of the cake roll.
Take halved peach gummies, add two dabs of frosting to the cut ends, and stick behind the Peep as the back of the “seat.”
Add a small dab of frosting to a Lifesaver candy and place in front of the Peep as the “steering wheel.”
Attach two matching M&Ms to the front of the cake roll as “headlights.”
Adhere four matching Spree candies to each long side of the cake roll as the “wheels.”
Get ready to race!

Tips for Making Your Own Easter Candy

Easter can be one of the most rewarding times of the year for candy lovers. From chocolate bunnies to assorted sugary sweets, there’s candy everywhere around this holiday. Unfortunately, however, if you have food allergies or would like to avoid specific ingredients — including those ones you can’t pronounce — store-bought candy often isn’t an option.

Although it requires a little more effort, homemade Easter candy offers many more benefits than the kind you see at the store! In addition to giving you the freedom to choose your own ingredients, making your own Easter candy is fun and a great opportunity to bond with family and friends.

For those who have never made their own candy, here are a few tips so you can learn how to make Easter candy:

  1. Choose the perfect Easter candy molds. There are so many choices of candy molds available for Easter, it’s impossible to choose just one. Whether you want crosses, bunnies or other spring-time symbols, you’re sure to find at least a few fun candy molds to experiment with this holiday.
  2. Find your favorite chocolate and other ingredients. Everyone has their favorite type of chocolate — some people like creamy milk or white chocolate, while others enjoy the full flavor of dark chocolate — and you can create your candy with your favorite chocolate as a base. Consider adding other ingredients as well, such as nuts, caramel or peanut butter, to make this candy all yours.
  3. Prepare your ingredients. If your chocolate requires tempering, check out our blog post for instructions for tempering chocolate. Additionally, other ingredients might require some prep work, such as chopping nuts or melting caramel.
  4. Fill your candy molds and let them set. Once all of your ingredients are ready to go, fill your candy molds and allow the candy to set.
  5. Decorate your homemade Easter candy. One of the best benefits of making your own Easter candy is that you get to turn the candy into a work of art. Use a candy writer to decorate your chocolate with fun colors, or try adding some edible glitter or sprinkles.
